Cal Fire has taken possession of Pacific Gas and Electric Company equipment as part of an investigation into the cause of a deadly wildfire burning in Shasta County.

03/22/2021 (Breaking News) After the investigation, Cal Fire said the Zogg fire was caused by a pine tree that contacted electrical distribution lines owned and operated by PG&E north of the community of Igo.

The Zogg Fire was first reported around 3 p.m. on Sept. 27. Since then, it has burned 56,338 acres, and at least four people have been killed in the blaze.

PG&E, the nation’s largest utility, recently emerged from bankruptcy caused by financial fallout from several devastating wildfires caused by its utility equipment that destroyed more than 27,000 homes and other buildings in 2017 and 2018 and killed more than 100 people.

The utility “PG&E” had cut power in the general area of the Zogg fire, but it hadn’t de-energized lines where the blaze is thought to have started. PG&E said its records indicated that its equipment recorded alarms and other activity related to a power line in an area where the Zogg fire began and near the time of its ignition. – Redding.com

PG&E filed an Electric Incident Report (EIR) with the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) when PG&E learned that CAL FIRE had taken possession of PG&E equipment as part of CAL FIRE’s investigation into the cause of the Zogg Fire in Shasta County. – Redding.com

12/29/20 The federal judge who oversees PG&E’s felony probation stated that PG&E blackouts have actually ignored the number one cause of wildfires: the dangerous trees and limbs surrounding the power company’s distribution lines. In his written order proposing additional conditions of felony probation for the company, U.S. District Court Judge William Alsup sharply rebuked the company for its wildfire management practices, and for its likely role in causing the recent Zogg Fire, writing “there are clear signs that PG&E bears responsibility” for the Zogg Fire.
