What Happened?

Recently, NEMS reported to the Attorney General of California that it experienced a data breach involving sensitive personally identifiable information in its care. As of February 18, 2026, NEMS has not publicly disclosed the specific categories of personal information that may have been exposed. However, under California reporting guidelines, “personal information” may include an individual’s name; Social Security number; driver’s license number, California identification card number, tax identification number, passport number, military identification number, or other government-issued identification number; financial account information, including account numbers or credit or debit card numbers in combination with any required security code, access code, or password; medical information; health insurance information; unique biometric data such as a fingerprint, retina, or iris image used to authenticate an individual; information collected through the use or operation of an automated license plate recognition system; and genetic data.
