What Happened?

On August 8, 2025, Inotiv detected a cybersecurity incident that disrupted access to certain business systems and internal data storage. An investigation was immediately initiated, and Inotiv engaged third-party cybersecurity experts to assist in the response.

According to the company’s findings, a threat actor gained unauthorized access to portions of Inotiv’s network between August 5 and August 8, 2025, during which the intruder stole data and deployed ransomware. The incident resulted in temporary interruptions to business operations and the inability to access specific network resources.

A comprehensive review of the affected files concluded before the company submitted regulatory notices in early December 2025. Inotiv then began sending notification letters to impacted individuals in accordance with state requirements, including filings with the Maine and Texas Attorneys General.

The investigation confirmed that the compromised data included a combination of personal, financial, and health-related information, such as names, addresses, Social Security numbers, driver’s license or identification numbers, payment card information, medical and health-insurance details, and dates of birth. Individuals impacted include current and former employees, employee family members, individuals associated with companies acquired by Inotiv, and other persons who interacted with the company.

Notification letters have been sent to affected individuals, outlining the incident, the types of information involved, and recommended steps to defend against potential misuse of personal data.
