What Happened?
On September 4, 2024, Weiser Memorial Hospital detected unusual activity on its network. The hospital promptly secured its systems and enlisted third-party cybersecurity experts to investigate the incident. The investigation revealed that an unauthorized party accessed and exfiltrated hospital data on or around that date. The breach was linked to a ransomware attack carried out by a group known as EMBARGO, which claimed to have obtained approximately 200 GB of data and threatened to publish the stolen information on the dark web.
Following a thorough review that concluded on April 21, 2025, Weiser Memorial Hospital determined that sensitive information belonging to current and former patients had likely been compromised.
